Promised Vow
But this morning,
as she turned away
to leave, to keep a promise
she had made,
she glanced back at him,
and flashed what to him
was a reassuring,
if teasingly conspiratorial,
hint of a smile
in her
eyes.
That, too,
was a promise,
and he secretly rejoiced,
for it might still be
that, though he did hesitate,
in time, his love, or infatuation,
as she had laughingly insisted,
may not yet be too late,
if only, for a while,
it could
wait.
