And this was so unlike Mrs. Roosevelt, who championed every other minority in sight... It speaks, at least in part, to the deepy-ingrained anti-Semitism of WASPs in America prior to the 1970's really, when things really began to change fairly rapidly... Numerous things in the USA have surely changed for the better, lest we forget. Thanks for commenting and Cheers, Gershon

She, along with FDR, shared a real revulsion in the presence of Jews. While this was common back then among blueblood WASPS, it was surprising in Elinor's case, as she championed the cause of the underdog and the outcast in America for more than 40 years. ~ gw
