Prayer of the Afflicted

Prayer of the afflicted

Dear Lord,
God and Father
of all tender mercies,

Please allow me
to beseech you
in my time of affliction,

I know Dear Father,

that you care for
even the sparrows,
how much more so
you care for
your faithful servants...
especially
in our time of need

I know not of my sins,
as I cannot see my own
imperfections, and
it is hard to see myself
as you do,
through your loving lens

Dwelling as I do,
in this earthenware vessel
of your making,

my treacherous heart
tries to impose it's will,
but thanks to your Word
and the power you have given me
I have thus far continued to
battle my fallen flesh

I am unaware of my sins
and for these I am truly sorry
as I must have failed you
in thought, word or deed

I know you alone
are wholly righteous
and,
only because of your mercy,
and loving kindness
can I approach you in prayer

thanks for giving us your
Son as a ransom on our behalf,
although many of
humankind do not know,
or appreciate,
your loving gift,
I do!

I look forward to
your righteous new world,
as promised in your Word,
where all suffering and even death
will be swallowed up forever

I have faith in you,
that you will
keep your promises
as you are a God
who cannot lie

until then dear Father,
please help me
to endure my afflictions,
to endure this wicked world
and it's sadistic ruler

until your time comes
to step into human affairs
once again,

please continue to bless me
even though I am nothing but dust;
but, you in your Majestic Mercy
and Loyal Love of Righteousness
understand my incompleteness
and forgive

In Jesus name,

Amen

Your poem expresses such humility, John. We don't see that often. Your poem reads like a beautiful prayer and I'm making a copy of it so I can recite this now. My brother is very ill and I hope this poem will help his recovery. Bless you for sharing this special piece. Hugs, Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn for your kind thoughts, we can only be humble before God, we are nothing in relation to God's greatness, and anyone who challenges that immutable truth will have problems. Thanks again

A beautiful prayer of supplication John. I pray daily and nightly for family and friends in need but mostly I give thanks for the many little blessings I am given. We are all connected as children of God and prayer powerfully unites us with God. This is very beautiful John. Blessings xxoo

Such an uplifting and inspirational prayer and if there were more people praying and thinking like you this world would be a better place...the power of prayer works, powerful words reach those who need them sometimes...all we can do is pray for forgiveness and hope that one day we will reign in a better land...Amen John...love this one! :) hugs

some of us are thankful everyday...with my family lines, i am thankful every day, i am thankful to see the rise of sun each morning, thankful for all things in my life, but mostly thankful to be able to live another day....

Thanks Sandy I thought you may come by and comment, it's true less and less people think about God, maybe when they're in trouble or in need then they pray, but what about the good times are we thankful? I try to be everyday!

Powerful prayer. I love the passage that reminds us of how Jesus offered himself as a ransom for our sins. There is great freedom in knowing that as believers in Christ we are free from condemnation. This is the wonderful news that an unbelieving world needs to hear. They also need to see it lived out with sincerity and conviction. May Christ continue to bless you and all believers.
