Postmodern Buddha
It’s evolution and for sure we’ve come some automatic way since
Darwin marvelled at volcanoes in Galapagos and still
We proudly fight all wars to settle scores and greedy quest
Revolution shouts the disobedient anti Wall Street warrior
Mask with smiles covering riled fury on their faces
Sporting Marx or Che Guevara on exclusive shirts
God Almighty nails on cross and turning tables at insipid marble temples
Self-righteous crusades with words and swords
Belligerent faith to claim which idol is the best
Money shares and gold give rise to power and sophisticated domination
Can’t eat bills and coins when the earth won’t breathe
As plastic suffocates the ocean credit cards are futile
Sex Drugs and heavy metal music self-pleasing wasted orgies
Mere distractions with perforated ear drums
Orgasmic heroes snorting while they copulate
Two concepts hold less anger and can free the mind and soul
A meditating Buddha overcoming suffering
And post-modern disconnected fragmentation
Siddhartha tries to find the eightfold middle way in meditation
Between ascetic hunger bar a fig or two and
Flatulent opulence in futile search for satisfaction
Fleeting impermanence hovering in levitation
Love compassion kindness not to hurt a sentient being
Sharing caring in mindfulness modesty forgiveness and humility
This seems farfetched for so called civilized rational conclusions
When everything is dissolute broken torn to fragments
Shards of rigid polar opposites contradicting dichotomies
Rip apart with confusion in a world we cannot understand
Feel disconnected powerless surrendering to deepest schism
The shibboleth’s illusion that we can only heal when everything is fixed
And yet once we accept the things we cannot change concentrate
On what is possible seek wisdom to know the difference
Find solace in some mediocre inevitabilities of life
Put a loin cloth on where fig leaves cannot cover
And shoulder all those splintered putrefactions
The Buddha in all of us connects with the freedom of unresolved disintegration
