Precipice, Portal, Perpetual words contest        January 19, 2024

"Doors and windows are portals of mystery. What secrets do they hold?" quote by poet There are moments when I'm alone that I hear a loud ringing tone in my ear just before a new portal appears in my vision. These things that are being revealed to me, I fear if I should openly speak of them, would cause derision. I dare not admit to having seen faces staring back at me through a portal door. There were crescent moons in strange places and dark caverns that led to... I know not where. But I heard whispered conversations I could not ignore. Some opened that I wanted to close, in anguish that if I had ventured nearer, something eerie would pull me in, so I froze. I glimpsed portals of darkness, some of clear light and one from which came demonic laughter... a fright! Portals quickly slam their doors shut when I seem a bit too interested in what I beheld. Clocks whose hands spoke instead of simply tocking. I couldn't look away and watched as if I was compelled. A Quantum opening to another realm held things shocking! Not all of them gave me pensive feelings. In one, I saw through a stained glass window; rooms of furry white animals who nodded at me. There were exotic plants growing from the ceilings, and I heard waves crash on the shores of a restless sea. Several opened for me to see pastel skies filled with all sorts of birds, flying in great flocks. Each time a new portal opened I hoped it wouldn't make me feel as if I was peering inside Pandora's box. I can't pretend they don't exist... and perhaps I shouldn't. One day I may have courage to step inside a portal that opens near me. One I wouldn't fear. If I'm not able to return, some would suspect I died. I wonder how long before I'd be missed if I just disappear. I should give it more thought before I enter the Twilight Zone.

Dear Constance, thank you so much for being awarded a win in your contest. A few weeks ago, I declared that I'll no longer enter PS contests. I have always enjoyed writing for you and admire your honesty and friendship.

mysterious and thought provoking read, Lin. I rather like the concept of portals...with their symbolism and significance. I've entered many portals in my lifetime, sometimes willingly, sometimes not. Each one was unique. I like the Twilight Zone reference...adds intrigue..have a great evening. Sara

Nancy, his voice was so smooth, a titch out of character for the kind of sci-fi we were about to watch. Thanks so very much for being captivated. That's quite a compliment, and I am sincerely grateful.

Yep right up my street this one. Such mystery and thought provoking wonder, I love this kind of subject Lin - if I'm not able to return, some would suspect I died - thousands upon thousands of people go missing each year, this line says so much!

Could be they stepped through a portal, or something eerie pulled them in. We know so little. Thanks a lot for your insightful thoughts, Clive.

Dear Lin, Your poem is a very captivating exploration of the unknown and the courage it takes to face it. The vivid imagery and suspenseful narrative create a sense of intrigue and anticipation. Your words let us know the mysteries that lie beyond our perception and the potential for discovery if we dare to step through the portal. I love the Twilight Zone! - Blessings, Daniel

It was a journey into my imagination, Daniel. I really didn't give it so much thought as to what I'd see through portals... just went with my perceived visions. Silly or unrealistic, they may be, but they were my visions. Thanks for your detailed remarks. ;-)

I suspect you shall meet Alice and the Cheshire Cat soon, avoid the birthday party....interesting take on the contest Lin and I don't doubt the legitimacy of some of your unveilings herein. Nicely done

Good morning, John. Perhaps I should avoid portals in the ground. Who knows where I may end up? I don't doubt the existence of many things, but I'll not be courageous or curious enough to enter a portal should one open near me. Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
