"Clearly, animals know more than we think, and think a great deal more than we know." - Irene M. Pepperberg I have often pondered if animals or our pets can tell time Mine seem to know when my alarm clock is ready to chime If I am not awake and out of bed by six AM in the morning The meows and whimpers begin as if they are scorning My pets are rigid and adhere to their feeding demands If ignored, the bed will be where my cats will soon crash- land Purring loudly as their furry faces and whiskers tickle mine Soon it will turn into some tongue licks, little bites and whines My dog then comes charging into the room with his ears flapping about He’ll stand at the bed and pant as his smile soon turns into a pout The same thing happens when it’s their time to eat at night They become disruptive by scratching and jumping, oh what a sight The dog seems to know when it’s later at night and his time to go out And can sense when the time is close to eight PM, without a doubt He gets a reward for taking his night meds and going out before bed He knows when he comes in, he’ll get a biscuit or two snacks to be fed I have pondered this for many years as animals are very smart Is it their routine or does the time on the clock alert them to start I wish they could answer this question and had the ability to talk But I think if we could hear their words, we might be in shock
