Poisonous Self Doubt

Only life in our mortal realm
entrenches self-doubt’s stand.

People and events cripple us
with critical mirrors showing us
visuals of our ineptness.

All who are predisposed to clutching their negative blows
know doubts occurrences of fearful disturbance
	                     thoroughly unscrambles one’s confidence channel

Image deceit drips as falsely scented,
mixed with drops of fictive doubt,
to kidnap our splendid potential.

On and off, our truth wrestles doubt’s absolutes.
Since youth, most have fought that gloomy devil.

In writing, self-doubt is my constant companion. It has to be fought every moment, and exists even after I conquer it, just long enough to post my poem. Mine comes from having read and studied the golden poets of old and realizing the magnificent geniuses that they were. Yet as poets we must present our poems, in order to give to others- so doubt must be conquered, in order to do that. A fav..

We all slip up, and that negative inner critic never seems to miss an opportunity to point it out to us -- sometimes, when we have done well. SO well written! I especially love 'predisposed to clutching their negative blows'! Truly, we create our lives, by what we put our attention into. THANK YOU for this!

Doubt in small doses is scepticism, which is good for thought.

This poem is wonderfully expressive of how we all feel at times CayCay. I constantly doubt if I should post something because of that little devil voice telling me it is not good enough. I am sure she will like this one CayCay! I really thought it was brilliant! xxoo ; )

Hi Cay Cay, I can relate to this excellent write. Self-doubt has been my destroyer in many things and it shall be in many more. One day I shall believe in me and who knows what I shall be able to accomplish then. All the best in the contest, Reads like a winner. A fave. Have a wonderful Sunday. Hugs....Mike. XX

The poem you wrote could refer to anybody as i believe that all of us doubt ourselves a times, very wrong, for we should go forward with the power of your own convictions as you say in your poem. I dislike arrogant opinionated people who think they are the bees knees but in fact are nothing! Very well written CayCay and good luck in the contest. Poetry hugs and wishes, Jenny.
