Poetry

Listening to poetry can help spark an ember For those with dementia some past they'll remember Studies have shown that when read aloud Poems have power to help lift the cloud Awakened by words in rhythm and rhyme Recollections are stirred that had faded in time Although not a cure it can bring on a smile As some memories return and will stay for awhile

Thank you Timothy :-) I was unaware about poetry therapy until I recently learned about it. So I felt writing this poem would bring attention to this desease and be helpful to those who have family or friends that suffer from dementia

Anne, your words so beautifully written addressing our aging population. My mom had Parkinson's with dementia and I would read to her....her face would light up and sometimes she would re-sight, from her memory, the poem as I read. These were deep heartfelt moments. Thanks for bringing this out with such grace in your poetry. :)Paulette

Thanks Deb :-) I also didn't know about this until I did some research as my cousin's mother is afflicted with dementia and is now in a nursing home.
