Poetry

Listening to poetry can help spark an ember
For those with dementia some past they'll remember
Studies have shown that when read aloud
Poems have power to help lift the cloud
Awakened by words in rhythm and rhyme 
Recollections are stirred that had faded in time
Although not a cure it can bring on a smile
As some memories return and will stay for awhile

My mom had Parkinson's with dementia and I would read to her....her face would light up and sometimes she would re-sight, from her memory, the poem as I read. These were deep heartfelt moments.
