Notes About The Poem

Poetic Inhalation Poetry Contest

sponsored by Dilly Dally  01/20/24

Poetic Inhalation

Inhales prosaic air
muse probes breeze
Filtering depth
as image melees
Drum snares the heart
beating out dull pain
Osmosing spores
form finely tuned rain
Patters tap source
concept ignites
Erupts into thought
exhales and writes

I adore the way this builds to that last line, written in such a way that it's hardly noticeable to the reader that they were holding their breath - such a sensory experience for the "finely tuned rain" - like a poetic microcosm :) (I mean miniature bubble around the poet - might have the wrong word)

Haha I totally forgot about this one just lying around in my back catalogue, but it is one of my favourites, yes I was in a bubble and holding my breath when writing this one, I was also delighted and proud to have done so well in Di11y Da11y’s contest, this site hasn’t been the same since she left! Thanks so much Jin for stopping by, cheers David

Inhale, filter, exhale-- everything comes from the heart & from how deep we breathe it. It's how we express it. Your "Inhalation" is right up Dilly's alley! I too delighted in this contest. Oh btw, give my warmest regards to Jan Allison, hats off to her newly garnered celebrity and superb publication of her book and success! F-yeah!

Thanks so much Anaya, you’re so right about the heart, it really is a complex organ literarily and physically, I hope Dilly enjoys this one, I will indeed pass on your regards to Jan on her new found success and book, cheers David

You took it all in (including that G&T) swished it all around and like lava from a volcano... you exhaled and it erupted into a rhyming flow of thoughts!

You know Lin that’s exactly how it happens, not all the time, but was probably the catalyst on this occasion, thanks so much, cheers David
