Perfection
Perfection
That is what you strive for, but what's the use when no one notices?
How many times have you cried because you weren't perfect?
How many times have you been looked over just because of who you are?
Is it your skin color?
Or is it just you?
Perfection
That is what you strive for, but they don't see you.
They don't see the real you.
The you behind the mask.
The you that has to hold their tongue, so people like you.
The you that doesn't have opinions that can be spoken.
Perfection
That is what you strive for, but are you perfect?
NO!
You bleed!
You ache!
You want to be perfect!
But at what cause?
They don't see you.
They don't see how hard you try.
Perfection
That is what you strive for, but when will it stop?
When will you stop?
Stop trying to bend over backwards for other people?
You won't.
Because it’s in your blood.
Your ancestors strived for perfection.
They still weren't enough.
And neither will you be.
Perfection
That is what we strive for, but will America see?
That perfection is not a characteristic?
That perfection is not real?
That not even a created specimen is perfect?
No.
Because America was built off of perfection.
Perfection is what we live off of.
It.will.never.stop.
Perfection
The definition of black people in white America.
Don't you see?
No you don't, no one does.
But they know the word.
No, not America.
Perfection.
