Notes About The Poem

Word Prism Form is a structured poetic form that examines a single anchor word by holding it steady & refracting it through multiple lenses—revealing its sound, appearance, functional behavior & emotional charge - revealed though association, perception, sensations, & lived experiences. The theme word is not paraphrased, substituted, or defined by synonyms, & appears only once in the title, except as an echo, a fragment or its components. (4) 3-line stanzas

Pedestalized

Make an idol of,
by worshiping &
adoring as godlike.

Heart beats rapidly,
sporadically whenever near
it skips.

To beautify furthermore would be
divine intervention,
nothing compares.

Weak-kneed & star-struck
paralyzed with love,
in an enamored state of presence.

Anaya, I do like the description of the adoration you provide. I have mixed feelings about putting things on a pedestal. It never seemed to work out well when I was young and felt that way about women I wanted to date. It provided a big lesson about seeing things as they are rather than as I wanted them to be. That was a difficult adjustment. When I read this, it makes me think about the good as well as the danger of that kind of thinking. Smiles!!

I do as well. The Madonna is imagined in abstract & on a pedestal, I find the painting of Mother & child, brilliant. I had Jesus Christ Superstar in mind, it's a well known, fact, statues, shrines, of their gods, mantels, religious relics, & what Christians idolize on pedestals. . Sorry to hear about those experiences, many resonate, Duke, you weren't alone. Peace be with you~

The divine sanctity of the mother-child continuum should be set upon a pedestal, if only society saw The Madonna in such a light--brilliantly portrayed in your offering. Faving
