Pedestal

I was crawling my way out of a dark tunnel

of low self-worth and lower self-esteem

When suddenly I behold a radiant light

showing me a man’s silhouette, holding out his hand

And I quivered, for this is what he said,

“Come out, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal,

you deliciously beautiful human.”

And it was sweet, when he presented to me

his photo, sometimes goofy and sometimes somber

Then he implored of me to return the favor

I was shy but obliged, replying, “As you wish.”

And I smiled, for this is what he said

“Great pose, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal.

You make me hot with your body karate.”

Before I could grasp what was happening

A steady rapport developed in haste

And I realized steadily over a thrilling time

How he made me feel good about myself

And I chuckled, for this is what he said,

“You are funny, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal

You make me laugh you hilarious human.”

Then his words took hold of a whole new shape

My heart started melting and my mouth was agape

It occurred that he knew how to touch me

without physically touching me at all

And I softened, for this is what he said,

“You are such a f*cking babe, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal.

You impact me, thanks for being you.”

Delightfully for a time we dined and we talked

Fervishly we drove and leisurely we walked

We got rather cold and we kissed in the snow

He sheepishly caressed me with a second chance

And I fell, for this is what he said

“You’re a 10, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal.

You stun me and I appreciate you.”

I sought out his presence at every chance

The feelings inside felt like such elegance

He charmed as he played me his rollicking music

My fortunate ears prickled at his rhythmic magic

And I swooned, for this is what he said,

“You are really f*cking cool, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal,

you special and cherished human being.”

And lo and behold my confidence ballooned

But I attached too tightly like a cuddly buffoon

Then I wondered and worried too much to admit

While his measured calmness dismissed it away

And I relaxed, for this is what he said,

“Silly goose, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal.

I soothe you and you soothe me.”

My adoration for him swelled up even more

My excitement had ruptured and splattered all over

With him I soared each step we went higher

My head got so high it caused unintentional damage

And I burst, for this is what he said,

“Ladyface, take my hand, let’s go up the pedestal.

You should know what high regard I hold you in.”

He cleverly avoided my emotional heap

And quietly retreated into blackness so deep

So I chased and I clawed at this terrible wall

that he had built up around him so tall

And I shook, for now he didn’t say anything at all.

His words had lifted me up high on that pedestal

Making the fall harder when I tumbled down.
