Peace Beneath The Noise

We talk in circles
Each one louder than the last
Fighting over righteousness like toys
Which will not even matter tomorrow
Nobody pausing to breathe

We hear the words but
Not the meaning
The volume drowns it out
Maybe we do the same to each other
Because silence feels like surrender

There is peace somewhere
I still believe it exists
Like a song buried under static
Waiting for us
To tune in on the same fragile frequency

Today’s politics build walls
Taller than our communities
We forget the easy truth
We are more alike than not
All of us stumbling forward

Maybe someday
We will sit at the same table
Pass the bread without bitterness
On the foundation of our deep roots in humanity
Remembering it has always been our greatest strength

My what a great write! I especially enjoyed “There is peace somewhere I still believe it exists Like a song buried under static Waiting for us To tune in on the same fragile frequency” The imagery is so uniquely compelling and your optimism is hopeful and encouraging!

Thank for for reading and sharing your thoughts. I certainly lack optimism plenty of days myself.

oh, i wish i had your optimism, christopher! this is a beautiful poem but i have lost my faith in people's ability to "pass the bread without bitterness," as you've said so well...
