Peace
Amidst the chaos peace descended.
It calmed the waves and quieted the storm.
It wafted like a breeze, cleansing the air,
and settled like a butterfly with gossamer wing.
Just when it seemed that the world was ending
it slipped quietly in. Sitting at the back;
listening but saying nothing. Silent,
waiting for the moment to 'attack'.
It watched and waited as the fighting continued.
Almost interrupting, but held in check.
When the arm lifted the sword to strike
the deciding blow, it whispered 'stop',
and the weapon wavered in the warring hand
before it fell and clattered to the floor.
Peace spoke then: 'look what you've done
with your hatred and cruelty. Do you think you won?
Look at the destruction, the devastated souls,
and the misery you have caused. I've been watching
and waiting for you to come to your senses, but
you never did. Not content until the world
creaked and cracked under the strain,
until all that remained was hopelessness.
Well, I'm here now and I order you to stop.'
Amidst the chaos peace has descended.
War and hate have ended.
