Past Winds
If only I were the wind
I'd fly to memories thin
back beyond time
a place all mine
I'd slither between fields
twirl in valley shields
hide among the pines
rustle hillside grape vines
Finding a forest a river within
stay for a moment before I rescind
Lift eagle feather wings to soar
Wait for rain howl with storm
Whip dust from places I played as child
lay loosely there where I grew so wild
return to those places dark
I would rest as wooden bark
