Passion for Plumaria Oh you glorious Plumaria tree With rich blossoms of pink or gold and white. Your sweet ambrosial nectar pleases me, Your lei placed 'round my neck is a delight. Tropical fragrance wafting in the breeze Favored flower by each Hawaiian guest, Grows in abundance on our floral trees So, with lei makers they become a quest. Their softest velvet petals grace the face. Wedded, denotes blooms worn behind left ears, A local code for those who share this place In tradition that goes back many years. A blossom so revered, yet rife Which is known to express eternal life. 7-23-18 Your Finest 2018 Sonnet Poetry Contest sponsored by Mark Massey

Gorgeous sonnet of a gorgeous flower. It's no wonder this is the preferred petal for making leis. I didn't know the tradition about the left ear representing those who are married. It seems I learn something new every time I read a Connie poem! Very nice.

Thank you John. Our internet has been down and with quarantine we really missed it. No T.V. either. It was just now restored. I appreciate your lovely interest in reading my poetry my friend. Blessings xxoo

Connie, the flower is beautiful and an excellent conversation starter about eternal life! The petals form a bit of a spiral and remind me of our galaxy just a bit. I am glad you have these on the island where you are. A lot of flowers have 5 petals. And so, your words live eternally here and in my heart having experienced a brief moment of joy. Thank you for that!!

Yes, it is a tourist favorite because of its heady fragrance. I actually prefer tubarose leis but plumaria are plentiful. My son, when he was four, picked up some and gave them to me which is why I wrote this sonnet. Thank you Silent. : )
