Passing Cloud

the kansas clouds
saw this moment long ago
sky-seers that they are
this earth and our lives
in repetitive motion
my heart was an empty vessel
your eyes saw something
hidden away within

a feeling remembered
from a night long ago
before clarity realized
a cloud sees something more
now the prairie sky
turns to dusk
and we continue
to walk
side by side

hands touch
fingers entwine
i have forgotten
what empty is

evening skies are
tranquil transitions
soft jazz refrains
our chorus sings
of words unwritten

we really love
each other
i whisper
to a passing
cloud
