Pandemic Changes Our Thinking

We took seeing our friends and family for granted. We could do that any day of the week if we wanted to. Children sat in dark houses for days at a time, pushing buttons. Listening to bells and whistles, losing their enthusiasm for outside or friends. They could play with them any time – if they wanted to. But the bells and whistles held them hostage. The subliminal blips kept them prisoners. Until they stopped playing, like little addicts, wanting their fix. Then the pandemic came to visit. Suddenly we could not visit. We could not see our friends or family. OUCH! Now we really wanted to. We began go hunger for human contact. For hugs and kisses, for pats and taps. Alas, time had run out. This time was past. So we returned to our unsatisfying addictions.

Great Write Caren...! I really like the opening two lines, as they are so true of human nature... The rest of the poem tells a story, but it is no longer a fairy tale, but life as we know it, of recent history and one we do not want to repeat, once it has gone... all the best my friend.. DAMO x
