Painted Landscapes
Breezing trees heard the whispers of leaves-
that used to be a lovely verdant green.
With summer nearly gone, each one perceives
it's time to stage their awesome autumn scene.
Their goodbye gift before the frost begins-
when limbs turn bare of their majestic life-
is turning red, gold, orange, leafy skins
to views of painted landscapes, rich and rife.
We marvel at the beauty of fall's glow;
yet soon, those vivid leaves will fall and die
to feed the soil beneath cold winter's snow-
as silently, they bid their last goodbye.
When trees awake again with spring's rebirth-
new leaves again will paint the verdant earth.
