Notes About The Poem

I see the world full of pain while we and others inflict more and more.  Pain in all its many forms, physical and emotional is stressing the world.  Our buckets are full.

Pain

“Pain”
I’ve had enough.
I’ve seen enough.
My bucket is full.

Little lost boys.
Little girls raped.
The guns never stop.

Mothers grieve.
Fathers bury.
Neighbors’ morn.

We write of it.
We sing of it.
We pray it ends.

Nations at war.
Lives destroyed.
Destruction surrounds.

Are we insane?
The pain it brings,
Over and over,
Again and again.

In midnight dreams,
On sweat-drenched sheets,
No joy is found,
As life struggles on.

Is this the way
It's supposed to be,
No smiling faces
On living room walls?

Is this the way it ends?
Are we insane?
I don’t understand.
