Pain
Pain discourages my heart
And I feel so very lost
Alone like I have never known
With a sorrow that has grown
From something sad and dark
To a feeling of grief beyond words
Aching to my very bones
This throbbing trouble is like
Mourning, black and gloomy
Heavy on the heart and shadowed
By the feelings of dread and fear
That pierce the hope, dispel
All the faith that whispers
Its grace and thanks
Its light that shines down
From its home above
From the center of the storm
Falling in shades of death and ruin
There lives a silence that attests
To the hurt living in my chest
The worry that colors my life
In an oppressive urgency for light
The anguish that comes to life
On the heart who knows such strife
Is like a sting from the bleakness
Brought about my struggles with despair
The angry depression who can’t care
If my mind is at a loss for the peace
That comes when the truth flies free
The truth is that love from God
Destroys the darkness, the discord
Brought about by a sorrow beyond words
Feelings so painful they are a part
Of the shadows, the obscurity, the night
Where we can’t see the intense light
Of One who gives our hearts relief
Solace for all our pain and grief
Assurance that all we need to do is
Believe, and we’ll discover the answer
To our prayers is alive in the heart
Of those who share a love of Jesus
The One who opens the door to hope
The One who silences the fear
The One who shelters us through
Every sorrow, every pain, every struggle
With Him, there is only sweetness and wonder!
