Overwhelming Kindness
The ivory sculpture of the flotilla of clouds high,
sailing in sensuous spring air in the cerulean sky,
turns to a menacing fleet bringing sudden scare,
changes life in the shadow of invisible danger rare.
The snapped fabric of human values and bonds frail,
builds bare islands in the loneliness sea lashed by gale
of the tempest of self-seeking chase out of control,
the tide of time washes away bliss from the soul.
Enwrapped in the collapsed wings of the caged bird,
the confined psyche crumbles in the abyss blurred.
It rises from ruins with spirit soaring in free breeze,
as the tormenting tide ebbs after times like these.
In utter disarray in the fold of hard times like these,
I am perforce restrained to do things that I please.
Life has lost natural rhythm in chaos of uncertainty,
but I go on getting spontaneous help in plenty.
Distant from the outside world in forced isolation,
I don’t spend the demanding time in dull desolation,
to the helpful hands of friends and neighbors I’ve access,
I’m gratefully overwhelmed by their acts of kindness.
In their ample support the benevolence of God I see,
lift my sunk spirit from the depth of miserable worry.
Even if the haze of insecurity disappears some day,
to them the priceless debt I won’t be able to repay.
