Overlap

The overlapping of me and us three
Of who I was and who I turned out to be
I never ever felt I was good enough
Or tuff enough to deal with that stuff

Gentleness inside grew like a flower
by day by night hour by hour
Yet I’m not some shrinking violet
I did not could not would not cower
I allowed soft to become my superpower

No bitter bone or heart like stone
A soft voice without the sappy happy tone
Those who need me won’t be left all alone
My minds not made to be judgmental
even when others might feel anger prone

So I’m okay with me
and who you two became too
We each have our ways to be true
I’m thankful we escaped our blue
Finding our best way through
We are more than what we were
or even all the things we’ve done or do
Nothing is everything
Thankfully overlapping old ways
make way for the new.

Myself an my siblings each dealt with the trauma of our childhood in our own ways. When I was younger I had trouble accepting their different ways. Time is a lense that helps us view the past with more clarity.

Grateful for the clarity that time brings. We get older and (hopefully) wiser. Lovely piece Richard.

Time pours into our world its weight and wisdom.. souls who cross our paths of Life and mark our hearts and minds in so many different ways.. along with hidden gifts and blessings.. I see it as a so beautiful and enriching interdependency.. the deeper we become aware the least we are judgemental.. You have displayed life concerns wonderfully into a so expressive poetry! Truly a great pleasure to read a poetry that opens many a window into the soul!: thank you so much, Richard for sharing! My deepest regards and blessings.

Powerful write. We all develop different coping mechanisms. The key is survival. I'm glad you found your way into the light.

A fine write, Richard. I truly believe introspection can improve us almost on a daily basis. Sometimes it's meditation; other times it is just a clear-eyed look at what we are doing and saying. I loved your poem, friend. Nice!

WoW! Richard, Although me and my siblings grew up in the home, my childhood was much different. I often wondered why me? I resented it too. But as I grew older, I feel differently. Thanks for sharing such a write:-) Alexis

Hi Richard, Maturity is a space we reach having gone through experiences in our lives, when are we mature, as early as from our teens, sometimes we have had to take on responsibility from a young age, but when we reach pensionable age, when is that by the way, we still have our business and God willing, hope to be able to carry on until we can't any more, emotions are easier to handle, age becomes a stabilizer for mortality does come into play. Great write Ricky, Hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

When we grow older, we view the same things with a different perspective coated with experience, great that you accept them as they are now, Richard:)

People deal with trauma in different ways. It is hard enough to deal with your own feelings when you are young. Your poem was the result of a lot of soul searching. Excepting people as they are with no bitter feelings of the past.... Wise words, heartfelt poem. Take care ... Shirley

Very well expressed. Growing older has some benefits I also have found -- acceptance of self and others, our differences, can be a big plus.

Beautifully woven, Richard. To me, the underlying (great) significance here is that your relationship continues, despite the blue beginning and all the twists and turns. May you all continue to appreciate each other. Thanks for sharing this. Happiness Forever, Gershon

As we grow older we begin to see the role we played at home as we were growing up. We all played our part and some of us, survived by different means, Its nice when we are old to realize we made it through and the best part is when we realize, we turned out more then jus ok, lovely write that goes straight for the heart, Thank you Richard.
