Our Lives of Mysteries

I am convinced our lives are fated Genetics playing the largest role, Though events affect our longevity The fates are forever in control, They can infringe on our free will Despite choices, we are changed, We cannot foresee or understand The course of our life is ordained. We cannot extend our lives, but, We can shorten them with habits Freak accidents can’t be explained, Or why some multiply like rabbits. Our basic characteristics are set Before we even enter this world By those chromosomes and genes We inherit from our distant kin And we can do nothing to change The color of our inherited skin. So, we live our lives of mysteries Until the fates take us elsewhere Each making our unique histories Thinking we our own crosses bear.

I think when we listen to our heart, our soul's path is in there and it answers us. "We cannot foresee or understand The course of our life is ordained." - and of course we were given FREE will, thanks to God.

I think the bottom line is choices, Caren. Making good choices is the secret to a good life.

Deep thoughts, Milt. I like the summation of your view on fate and free will. I don't think we think completely alike, but most I agree with and some I would expend on a bit. I think our free will is free to the extent of how we react to the events that come into out lives, not by our choices but for us to experience and react to. Many times how we react to event and poeople that come into our lives, effects our individual future. Just thoughts. thanks for sharing my friend. Bill

As you said to me in your comment on MY poem, I agree with "almost" everything you say here. Good one, Milt.

That's okay, Andrea, when it comes to philosophy and religion I agree completely with almost no one. Over the years, I have come to my own ways of thinking, and until I am convinced of something better, I just go with my way. Hey, thanks for the comment.

So I was always destined to be this gorgeous hunk of manhood then. Hey girls, come to Terry… you can’t fight destiny. Seriously, Milt, few would or could argue the point. Nicely composed. Terry

Thanks, Terry, I was fated to be handsome like George Clooney and those guys, but I don't know what happened. I think my genes got tangled some way or another. No, you can't fight destiny. She always gets the last word!
