Oooooo - For Four Line Light Verse ContestPremiere Contest Winner

With his alphabet spaghetti my son kept spelling ‘OOOOOO’
His teachers say he’s clever so what was I meant to do
But when I got it figured out all I could say was Oops
For when I checked the can the label said Spaghetti Hoops

[Mr Google tells me that Spaghetti Hoops are known in the U.S. as Spaghetti-Os]

Charming poem, Terry ~ In Canada, we know them as Spahetti-Os as well but we got the drift, nevertheless it's always good to add the note as you did. Congrats on your top win!

Thanks, Tom. No big secret, just an attempt to put it to bed. Wrote it twenty two years ago and every few years I edit (improve?) it. I really want to publish my second novel (which I think is the better) but although it’s not a sequel it does have serious tie ins to the first. So this one is kind of practice but it needs to be right because technically it will be publicly visible. Terry

Terry, so glad you entered this piece in my contest. It was delightful and rose to the very top of the 50 entries. It is one of the most enjoyable four-lines I have read in a long, long time. Congratulations!

Thank you Milt. I’m well chuffed with top spot for a four liner... not my usual thing. Particularly pleased as my output is sparse right now, although that’s only partly down to meagre inspiration and partly down to a brain straining attempt to format a novel... WHICH IS DOING MY HEAD IN! Anyway, that’s by the by. Thanks again for the pat on the head. Terry

Hi, Terry! OMG, this made me laugh so hard, and I took a drink of my iced tea and spat it all over my laptop here. Thanks! hahaha, Nah just playing! Guess that will teach me not to drink tea anymore around my computer, haha. Excellent penning, and thanks for a laugh. Best of Wishes, WIlliam PS; did he pull out six Os every time? Curious? Good Luck in the contest.

Unfortunately, it is in the remit of spaghetti hoops to only contain Os. He did once find a couple of Cs but they were two halves of a broken one. Glad you enjoyed so much, William. Terry

Thanks, Lindsay. Not often I restrict myself to four lines but that was the rules. I actually already had the bones of this as a three or four stanza poem, maybe I’ll finish that... or maybe not, now the joke is out there. Cheers, Lindsay. Terry

Thanks, Jan. I have no idea what made me think about spaghetti hoops. Poor lad must have thought it was the April Fool’s day episode of Countdown. ;-) Terry

Lol, love the humour Terry, one thing I find they're a hell of a lot easier to keep on your fork. Tom

Thanks, Tom. You got that right... I always try the fork and spoon thing with long spaghetti but it always ends up the size of a hand grenade. Terry

What can you expect out of innocent kid . He can't tell which is which is did. You may pat attention and listen. It is not too late to learn a lesson .

I’ll try harder, but he’s gonna struggle to spell much with Spaghetti-Os. Thanks, Mohamed. Terry
