Only a Dream, Dr King

~ "I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket." ~ Senator Amy Klobuchar, 2020 ~ "I have a dream that my four little children one day will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, 1963 Today in 2020 the dream died again Dr. King's dream, a beautiful dream But like all dreams, only that... Today in 2020, an eminently qualified woman dropped out of contention for the Vice-Presidential slot on the Democratic ticket for November for one reason, and only one reason --because of her race There were no headlines, Dr. King No one questioned her decision No one felt that she had done 'the wrong thing' ~ No one except me and you Rest in peace, Dr. King along with your dream

Well said. I think it sad we decide anything based on age, race or skin color which was Dr King’s point.

That's right. And that was, indeed, Dr. King's point, a point that's been buried under this Age of Entitlement, as opposed to Enlightenment. Oh, well...

You're right, of course. That WAS Dr. King's point... A point that's been lost in the Age of Entitlement... Oh, well... :) gw

Gershon, I must respectfully disagree - I was very impressed with Amy Klobuchar during the debates, but I think with a nation as diverse as ours, that diversity needs to be represented. There are many eminently qualified women of color - I watched an interview by Susan Rice recently, and her intelligence and composure and insight is as impressive as anyone I've seen - and yes, she does have a first hand experience of what being black in this country is like, which is something to acknowledge. Also we don't know for sure why Amy dropped out, it may be due to personal reasons she didn't want to disclose - so thank you for letting me give my opinion, as friends can share different points of view.

Thanks for speaking up, my friend... Disagreement also drives progress... I would offer this: Amy's a female. The USA still hasn't had a female V.P. or President. That's still a bit of a revolution... To ask Americans to vote for a non-rock-solid black female on the Democratic ticket may be inviting big trouble (for the Dems)… And unlike you perhaps, I don't see any rock-solid black female Dem candidates. (Btw: Nicky Hallee or Condoleeza Rice, in my opinion, are far better than any of the Democratic women proffered to date. In fact, I'd like to see either run for POTUS instead of orange-hair man). Cheers, Gershon

I think Dr. King would not be happy if he were alive today. Klobuchar dropped because Biden will have a hard time winning. Politics make strange bedfellows as they say. Your poem makes us think no matter our views. thanks

OK. Thanks for weighing in, Timothy.... I would offer this, however: We still haven't had a woman President or V.P. So, does she really think that we absolutely have to have a 'Woman of Color V.P?' Isn't one breakage of the glass ceiling enough... My gut tells me that not just a few will say they're voting Democrat, but in the booth, their fear and/or dislike of blacks will surface... Time will tell
