One Perfect Moment
Upon awakening
I lay within
This one perfect moment
Poised between two worlds
One is of dreams –
Possibilities not yet shaped
The other is of effects –
Life’s karma realized
Still in a dreamy trance
Life is a pleasant blur
The hard lens of necessity
Not yet in focus
Softness
Stills my heart’s anxiousness
Sleep’s cocoon rocks me
Quieting the awakening voices
I’m hesitant to choose
I’m so comfortable
So many possibilities
Open to me
Yet reality lies beyond
Sleep’s protective veil
And I realize
Even in dreams
Perfection does not exist
The spirit is punctuated
By mind’s knowledge
That it must awaken
To what is
Is there another world calling me?
Can I scale the rainbow’s arc
To a higher dimension?
Beyond suffering and pain
Beyond pleasure’s brief interludes
To rapture and joy
Perhaps the answer lies
In this envelope
Between dreaming
And living.
In this
One perfect moment
