One More Day

And one day they will perish
With dried, hollow sockets
And there will be no more of them.

No more will the soul scream
From the thorny cage.
One day they will be free
And no more will their hands wipe
Their flushed cheeks at midnight.
One day the light will enter the chink,
Not to 'show' them,
But of what they have become.
It will take them away.

When in the darkest labyrinths of the dark,
Their dreams inebriated,
Their fears scream
The fear would win.
None hears the piercing screams,
Nothing echoes, save their mind.

But one day they won't be here
To hold each other.
Every day it is the same, they fear
For they are lost in the thoroughfare.
Who they are they don’t know
For their lives borne them this burden.

In the silent realms of the night
They lay open-eyed, confiscated.
But not in love.
By the lack of it.

The pillow would have dried by the morning.
It is not the morning they wait
It is not the signs they avoid
They both know it is impossible.
Maybe the ‘other’, they wonder.
They hope.

They do hope.
‘One day.’
When this is all over,
And the nights are not lonely,
They will lie with each other,
With arms wrapped around the warmth.
With pillows of hope and sunshine.
One day for sure they will see.
Another day will pass,
Yet and now they wish they don’t last.
For they wish the ‘other’ heard, heed.
Mortified,
The blood drained scream their darkness hide.
