One Letter

My name's Ilene; Ilene's my name. Irene, though close, is not the same. When people switch that "l" for "r" I find that just a tad bizarre. It's rarely those who know me well Although my boss would never spell My name correctly if he wrote it; Even spoken, I would note it. You may think it's no big deal, But that isn't how I feel. "Just a name!" I disagree For it defines and pinpoints me!

As does that you don't capitalize your I here at soup. Speaks volumes, either that, Or you're just a lazy typer. :) No offense, I am too. :)

Verrrrry interesting write...My wife, Irina, is from Ukraine. When she says her name, it actually sounds a bit like Ilene!...My daughter's name is "Rachel Ilene Isaacs (nee Wolf)---because back in Israel I couldn't remember that much of the time 'Ilene' is spelled Eileen...and Russian "Iren" definitely is pronounced like "Ilen."... What's in a name, btw? ---only the story of your life!! (See soup mail). :) gw

Unfortunately I often mispronounce a person's name, more so when they do not articulate it clearly. BTW "Irene" in Greek means "peace." Not sure what Ilene means, but it sounds Greek to me as well. / M

Well said! I once went for a job interview where I was told they could not hire me because customers would not be able to pronounce my name (various employers have called me Chico, Pablo, Pancho, Waco, etc.), so your are right on the money! Aloha! Rico

Your name defines who you are, it would infuriate me for people to get it incorrect. I had a classmate at school her name was Ira pronounced as eye ra, the maths teacher would call her i ra so she refused to answer the register until he would address her correctly in the end he used to call her by her surname as 'Miss French' so a compromise was finally reached!
