One In the Same

can you say you know who i really am

i wear my colors oh so bright even in the middle of the night

i don't dance a certain way or dress real fabulous

i'm not into manicures or facials or even pedicures

i don't walk with a switch or bend my wrist like this...

i don't talk with certain slang or hang out in a "gang"

i don't speak very loud or announce that i'm proud

i never asked to be this way nor am i blaming anyone

i won't hide in the closet since i already came out

i refuse to not speak up when i'm in a crowd

i can have a child or raise a family

i work as hard as you do and pay taxes too

i am smart and very wise with two eyes that see it all

i breathe and bleed the same as you and i pray to God too

you say i'm wierd and call me a freak

one thing you must remember is i'm real and thats unique

i tell you how it is you deny it ever was

they call me a dkye or lesbian some say i'm just gay

i tell you i am human just like you i just live another way

Freak! That's a strong word. I know it is very hurtful to hear. My dearest has heard it all to often. Born a 1 in a million genetic xxy... not Down's Syndrome. But externally obviously physically different- Even if the words freak of nature applied, name calling is cruel and heartless. My friend, like you, is a human with feelings, intelligence, experiences, etc. A living person created differently. Subject to attacks. Name calling and judgment are hurtful to many. Very nice awareness.

Be who you are, be it in your way. Don't be challenged to let you sway. Be proud and true, no deviation of path. Just be yourself Brandy lass>James

Bravo!!! No one should have to hide who they are. I was always taught that GOD loves us all. No one can judge you for how you choose to live the life that was blessed to you by God. Great write!!! ~Des Juan

Hi Brandy! this is such a beautiful reveal of a wonderful human being.... trully enjoyed the almost spiritual vibe I was getting as I read this...cool.... I believe the Native American philosphy of all living things equal under the "Great Spirit" (I call God, as your poem does) is the way I see life...wheww!!! got me thinkin'!!!nice!!!! Love, ...Jim
