One-Word
I saw you again today
Walking alone in the hallway
We did not even share a glance
There was no falter in your stance
You walked right by
I could say I did not care but that would be a lie
Because the truth is it hurt
My mind raced for a word my mouth could blurt
One word that would make you falter
One word to make you stop and look my way
Just like you used to do day after day
One word to bring us back to before
One word to mend the hole those words tore
What was once a warm smile
Had turned into a cold and distant frown
The way you looked at me
Pulled me up from the ground
Now the way you pass me by
It makes me want to drown
To crawl in a hole and never come out
To get away from it all
From you and the mistakes I made
All those thoughts yet one persisted
The wish that you had stayed
I began to think
One word to make you blink
One word that would make you smile
That look I had not seen for a while
One word that would bring you back
One word to make you regret what you did
But you do not regret what you did
For you did not falter
You did not stop and look my way
You did not blink
You did not smile
Because you did not care
So I did not dare
I did not dare to mutter one word
Because it would be filled with hate
Because it would truly seal my fate
You threw it away
All we had
And I really hope you are glad
That you lost what we had
That none of those smiles meant a thing to you
That you gave it all up
So what was I to do
Should I have said
One word to make you think
One word to make my regret sink
The word to make it all ok
One word to make it all go away
One word
