Once I Had

It's a long time ago
that I flew high and thought
that’s like a carrion crow
flying over a deserted plateau
could bring its prey so much woe.

Once I had a rose, a ruby rose,
someone stole it; my death throes.
It vanished like yesterday's snow.

I saw it as a television show
my heart that was so much aglow,
knew you decided to let it go,
like a third-rate picture show.

I wended my way through shadows,
sometimes was lost in meadows
or languished beneath the shady willows.

It was then too late for me.
I lay beneath the ugly Judas tree,
wondering how could he
have stolen my love from me.
But does he kiss you passionately?
as I, a bird of prey, did?

Whoa!!! Extremely upsetting to think someone to go off with someone else and not even look back. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K

Reflective and sad! Under the Judas tree was very descriptive, like being beneath the shadow of a traitor. This is such a deep poem Victor, and beautiful.

A very poignant piece my friend. Bringing home the reason I always say if you love someone tell them. You might not get another chance. Well done my friend. God Bless, JB

Under the Judas tree, Judas couldn't the heavy sin he'd committed after which the white flowers turned red with blood or shame. Nicely done my friend.

A very poetic way of thinking. That seems realistic to a point.

Very relatable, Victor. Well done! Sometimes scavenger, sometimes victim -- all part of the heart’s ever gaming hunt.

Yesterday I saw three crows flying with a hawk! What does that mean! Interesting!

Victor, I like how you use rhymes and eloquence to weave emotions and thoughts together. Your writing is excellent. Your lyrics' rhythmic flow brings pleasure, but the ending twist hits home. I see a melancholy undertone since we always remember special times and loved ones. Your romantic and sad story captures the deep loss of love.

You had me bouncing with your rhymes in happy rhythm--but then the turn in the ending. I hear the call of memories--we never forget our loved one.
