On the Walls
Ghostly alien effigy
Chalked on the walls,
Walked in these halls
Where I lay sleepy,
A dream of such a face
Can only be from fear,
The dreamer has seen little cheer
In life and falls into disgrace,
Scratches in minds eye
Paint the alien landscape
With beings far from known shapes,
Far gone from inner sighs,
Pale aliens from afar
Now set the stage for wages
Now taken from the place
Dealt and formed in war.
Here I am dreaming
Again of the struggles,
Again with another scuttle
To where I'd like not to go a-weeping.
