On the River

The river whispers my name,
beckoning me to paddle.
I grab my kayak and slide it
down the muddy bank
until it meets the water.

Navigating with the peaceful current,
maneuvering around pockets of rocks
sticking their heads above the water
just to say hello.

Look—a turtle suns itself
upon an old, forgotten log.
Birds sing hidden among the trees,
as minnows dance around my bow.

A dragonfly joins me on board,
landing on my colorful vessel,
a gentle reminder,
I do not travel alone.
