On Abortion

A society that legislates
To murder its own children
Is destined to destroy itself.

Hello W.A. Colt, I totally agree with you. It is a woman's choice to have it done or not. Because it is her body. Have a nice day my friend.

I completely agree! Those wishing to murder an innocent child, should think about adoption. Many in the world cannot have children. It would be an emotional process, but so worth it in the end. Blessings to all those that left beautiful and uplifting comments. Congratulations W.A CHOLT, on Poem of the Day. ~ Brandy

Hi Brandy, I am not for abortion. I am against it but I think it's going to happen regardless of what we think and since that is the reality I believe it should be done safely and that if we actually make it illegal it will snowball into more trouble and more death. Those clinics perform vital women's health services like mammograms for poor women and free birth control. The government should not use abortion as an excuse to cut off funds to them an shut them down preventing millions of women from receiving vital services. Otherwise, we should have Medicare for all which would encompass those services.

Abortion is usually a HORRIBLE experience for the mother too. However, it is done for many different reasons and I've heard that most of the time it is because the FATHER does not want the mother and/or the child. Some women never get over the heart-break of losing a baby no matter what the reason. However, it has been going on for hundreds of years and at least now it can be done cleanly and safely. Many women have died in the past because it wasn't safe or legal. Is that what we want>to go back to the dark ages when it was done in dark alleys and dark dirty rooms? Would you guys who can't seem to keep it in your pants or use protection rather see your wives, girlfriends, daughters DIE? Please! POTD MY A*S! Who is making these decisions on poetrysoup anyway nowadays? I thought we weren't supposed to get "political" here. And, whoever you are you can ban me if you like! I don't give a rat's a*s!

Abortion is wrong, but society including its churches, must find compassionate ways to prevent it and care for both mother and unwanted child. I don't believe in criminalizing the mother with the father not taken into account, also.

Well said, aren't those who push for it lucky that abortion wasn't about when they were born or they might have never been born. Congrats on POTD. Tom

Excellent, impacting piece. Congratulations on POTD. I am however pro choice, and see this poem being able to apply to more than the abortion debate; for me it could be titled "On War". I have no doubt we are destined to destroy ourselves ;) Warm regards, mo

Maureen, I agree with you regarding "pro-choice" and "war". However, I don't believe we are "destined to destroy ourselves". There are solutions. Take heart and think positive. It's very important that we ALL get out of that negative mind-set and work/protest/vote for positive solutions to end ALL war forever on the earth. It CAN be done. Have an open mind and heart. Spread love and hope.
