Ole Dave
It was a grave day
as they took
him away-
away from hope-the charter
of a new day
He was a fixture on the corner
seems-he'd been there forever
The locals knew him by name
everyone else-
relished their disdain
He was a medic in Nam
saw more death
than anyone
This frozen day
all his words
had fallen away
to a silence so complete
it had knocked him
off his
feet
