Old Smoothies

No seeds, spinach or carrots around; no greens, or reds, or oranges found. Only the smooth sliding elegance of twosome as one in skating dance. "Sequined Septuagenarians" much smoother than fresh-ironed linens. Golden, gliding glances so well-known, minute, mellow movements, subtly shown. A bittersweet moment hangs midair as dazzling Old Smoothies sway with flair. Both smoothies are good parcel and part, but Old Smoothies give rise to the heart.

Beautiful music and sonnet tribute to skaters and the song. My partner says he died early from Leukemia sad, and he was an unknown when he spotted Arlo Gutherie (I love Arlo) at a bar, asked if he could play for him, Arlo replied "buy me a beer & I'll listen. The song was "City Of New Orleans & the rest is History! Graceful and nostalgic, for sure, my dear Alice. (My mother took us to the Ice rink to skate at the May Co. Mall) haha.

Your partner is correct. I believe he was 34-36 when he died, leaving wife and three daughters. I believe one of the daughters released an album with some of his songs. And, yes, Arlo said he'd listen until his beer was gone. LOL I love to skate, ice or roller depends on the blades. :)

Linda, thanks for this poem and for posting the song. Both are beautiful in sentiment and a great tribute to people living life with a bit of grace.

You are welcome Duke. Yes, grace, gracefulness, graciousness all still exist. We seldom hear the "good" stuff, but we can still witness it, see it, be it. Thank you for visiting today! :)

Gosh, LAF, this takes me way back to my teen years in Chicago. Steve Goodman was a mini-sensation among the 'Old Town' (i.e., folk, camp, ex-beatnik) crowd. I could never figure out, though, how a 'nice urban-suburban Jewish boy' like Steve sang with such a Midwestern (Indiana-Kentucky) twang! Cheers, Gershon

LOL I know. He wrote many songs sung by other than himself as well. He made quite an impact in his tragically short life. Apt words: "From the cradle to the crypt, Is a mighty short trip. So you better get it while you can."...in his posthumously released album. I'm always happy to have you visit! laf :)

My wife knows if we're going to dance, it will just be standing in the middle of the floor swaying back and forth.

Dear Linda, you wonderfully celebrate the timeless beauty and grace found in the dance of aging souls. It's the enduring power of love and connection, transcending age and filling the heart with warmth and nostalgia. - Loved It! - Blessings, Daniel

I enjoyed your imagery; you made the dance floor come alive with "Sequined Septuagenarians" much smoother than fresh-ironed linens. What really touched me was "a bittersweet moment hangs in the air"--that's the way I feel when I dance with my hubby. Lovely poem, Faving...have a great evening, hugs, Sara
