Old Man , Young Wife

OLD MAN, YOUNG WIFE The mournful mist snaked thru the park Cold and Grey and looking cheerless, Soft, like a lie told in the dark. Quiet, still and seeming harmless, Twisting smugly, even careless. Obscuring all the paths, the lake, And hiding direction to take. It hid the truth, it hid the view: An invitation to mistake - Distorting everything I knew. Your scornful lies snaked thru my life - Yes, old and grey, but still fearless And willing to take you for wife. Your youth and beauty were peerless And I thought your love was ageless. You said he’s just a one-time friend Your affair had long reached its end. Words designed to mislead, confuse, Twist and hide: the truth to bend - Your entire love was just a ruse. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Oh, Dr. Ram s going to love this one, Syd. I actually hate to see women take advantage of men this way and your poem explains why so powerfully. That last line actually gave me chills. Best wishes in Dr. Ram's contest. Love, Carolyn
