oh, summertime
a long time coming you were
stuck for a while
by springtime
and her fickle ways to dally-
but then at last gave up
for your new chance to shine
oh, summertime
a long time coming you were
but finally- you arrived
and your season of lovely outdoor living
with carefree days
became our reward
So soon- our August has begun-
and you are so close to your exit-
for it is not too far in time
when September air repaints
your vibrant hues
into a world of autumn gold
with shorter days
and longer nights
such a melancholy time
when August comes
and begins to make way
into the next act in our theater of time-
when a new world
of both autumn and winter seasons-
reshapes our living
once again-
until the timing for the rebirth
of infant spring- like magic
arrives to mature into glorious summer-
to once more become
our yearly dream come true
