Oh Lord, As I Lay Down To Sleep

  Fear not of the undiscovered journey - 
   the soul’s compass will show you the way ~ the poet  

 When the curtain finally falls
and angels soft chimed voices calls
there are no mourning tears to seep
Oh Lord, as I lay down to sleep.

Time to set forth upon my way
towards that honeyed, nectar ray
Pray not my dear loved ones to weep
Oh Lord, as I lay down to sleep.

Shell left behind for pure sheer bliss
all mind’s attachments to dismiss
eternal life so shall I reap
Oh Lord, as I lay down to sleep.

Loving arms gently guiding me
amongst heavenly sights I see
my saviour at my side to keep
Oh Lord, as I lay down to sleep.

Soul radiant as it takes flight
fleeing shackles from dark to light
Pray not my dear loved ones to weep
Oh Lord, I awake from deep sleep.

Lanier Thomas June 23, 2024 at 6:51 PM A wonderful poem about faith in Christ that death is not the end. I like the couplet rhyme scheme and meter in each quatrain. (I want to suggest that "angel's" grammatically might be better as "angels' " or "voice" instead of "voices".) Very nice poem. I am a perfectionist and on inspection you are accurate in pointing out the correct spelling of angels when used in plural form (will have to keep more of a keen eye when typing especially with auto type that tries to override at times) Therefore, I have corrected it and I thank you most gratefully for your own keen eye and support and improvement to the poem. Valsa George May 3, 2024 at 9:29 PM This poem is the great testimony of a soul who has conquered all fears of death and is waiting for an eternal life of bliss to embrace. The refrain at the end of each stanza adds to the beauty of the poem. For you, death is not something to cry over, but to rejoice. If one reaches that level of faith, life becomes so easy and beautiful. You have found a haven where you pin your heart's content. We have nothing to worry when our lives are in His hands.
