Off to battle, they rode so jolly Reached the front line, saw their folly Bullets whizzing, shrapnel flying Grown men weeping, many dying Returning home, they hung their heads Brave hopes and dreams, long since dead

I think after their first battle, there are probably many disenchanted warriors, Gershon. War may sound romantic and exciting, but seeing comrades die has to be horrid. Well penned, my friend. Hope you are doing well! Hugs, Carolyn

Yes, dead so that you and I walk free and write Poetry, worship as we please and they, not us,fought for our freedom. I don't think that type of chutzpah exists anymore, sadly! We are too willing to srrebder all our freedoms.The dead who did so out of love of country, would be a joke today and spat upon as war mongers. More Jews and others groups would have died under Hitler had they hid behind their couches. Countries would all have been part of the Third Reich. America.Has surrendered to fear.
