Notes About The Poem

for the Musings Of The Mind Poetry Contest  of Ink Empress

Prompt: But to be your moon, must I wane?

Of Luminosity Equality

I say you are my sun -
    the splendid resplendent
       worshipful dawn of my day.
You say I am your moon -
      your lovely counterpart
and your queen in every way.
Always in my eyes
           you shine
no matter the time of day.
You are my idol
           whose light I reflect.

I know you love me
     but in your busy world
          it’s I that circle you -
keeping you always in my orbit,
for powerfully do you pull me
              in to you.
You call me your luminous goddess,
but please do not take me literally
                            as Luna.
I do not go through phases
ebbing and then glowing -over and over.
          My love and loyalty
                           are constant,
for I am never a mere sliver of silver,
and neither do I wax at my leisure.
But you would have me matter less
       and even have me go
                               completely dark
     when temporal concerns
                                overwhelm you.
        Can’t you see me here
      always offering my luminescence?

Call me your moon, Dear.
   I accept that gladly,
       but to be your Moon,
                  must I wane?

No, to be your moon
             I must reign
                               at your side.
Different though our earthly roles may be,
     I require equality
in the support, respect and love
       we give to one another.
How you answer now is critical:
    Will you shine as brightly,
                                 my dear one,
as I am able to shine for you?
And will you be my ever
               abiding and adoring sun?

Dear Andrea, This is a very romantic poem, and one that stand out amongst many poems I read for my contest, youv expressed in a very heartfelt manner, and there are so many lines I love! And the fact that youv used celestial and cosmic elements to give a very deep vibe to your word weaving! I especially resonated with “ for I am never a mere sliver of silver, and neither do I wax at my leisure. But you would have me matter less and even have me got” the wordplay, and conciseness of your poem is beautiful and profound! Thank you for supporting my contest! Sending you light always

YOU DID IT. Some wonderful word play, detailed imagery that delivers coherent meaning, there's cleverness, emotions - and together thought holding and provoking, I could go on and I will on the phone. SO VERY is its VERY, love what you crafted.

We need both the sun and the moon. Each has a purpose for them. Yet for poetry, I prefer the moon. Great poem. Loved the title.

"My love and loyalty are constant, for I am never a mere sliver of silver, and neither do I wax at my leisure." Love these lines. True love is constant and built on equality and mutual respect. A beautiful entry for the contest. All the best dear Andrea.
