Of a Summer Day
Water crests high in foamy waves
Water crashes to the beach
Water skims, tickling across my toes
Water darkens the shores of sand.
Sand glitters, tiny shards of glass
Sand warmed by the distant sun
Sand sifts, silently under my feet
Sand meets land and ends in grass.
Grass waves with an errant breeze
Grass shelters singing insects
Grass cushions my treading feet
Grass touches stones and edges wood.
Wood faded grey from daily sun
Wood planks solid beneath my feet
Wood, now heated, creaks quietly
Wood worn smooth, porch swing seat
A summer day calms a tired soul.
