Ode To the Not So Innocent Fifties

If only I had been a teen in the Fifties I'm sure I would have had "Happy Days", Like Fonzie I would have donned a leather jacket And young babes would have lavished me with praise Like James Dean I would have that swagger There'd be a cigarette hanging from my lips I'd have the right moves on the dance floor They would say "Check out those Elvis Hips!" You would see me riding down main street On my Harley with a babe on the back Making our way to A&W The best burger before a Mac attack Once done eating we'd go to the Drive in If dad would lend me his new Chevrolet The back seat would be way more comfortable Then a roll in the barn in the hay! With fogged windows we wouldn't see the Movie We'd still hear Humphry Bogart and Becall Passionately rounding all love's bases Not concearned about the movie at all! So now I am living in my fifties I'm Fifty three years old to be exact The back seats have gotten much smaller And I am way to uncool to attract! For Kelly Deschler's Decade Contest.

Pity we can't go back in time...but nothing wrong with wishing. 50s songs are a great bunch to listen to, and they had real lyrics in those days! This makes for a winning entry, Richard. // paul

Those must've been great times...I think sometimes, that we'd all like to revisit those 50's, once in a while. Thanks for the relaxing visit.

Hey Richard, this is so cool. It brings back memories of watching my sister and cousins and their boyfriends experiencing these cool things. Ahhh! So full of imagery and fun. Well done and best wishes in the contest. Be Blessed, Neva

A great write my friend. I was born in 1954 so the late 60's and early 70's were in my bag. Still caught the free love deeds and foot loose fancy free days aplenty'. Cooooool, is the measure of the man that never worries about that because he is to damn busy being cool to ever think about it.. Once I lived such a young life... past treasures my friend... long past.

Ha ha, for me life began when I escaped from home as a teenager and it has been great ever since.

This is wonderful and fun. My mom was a teen in the fifties and said it was the best time to be young but I don't know being a teen in the seventies was pretty awesome.

oh this is SO delightful, Richard!! Love the personal touch at the end though it is self deprecating it's done for fun! I was born in this decade, so like you, i did not get to really "live" all these cool things!! I think you did a fantastic job in this contest.

Fifty-three? My beard alone is forty-seven, my... young friend, Richard! Ha-ha! I was a teen in the fifties ( but passing through difficult times) so you brought nostalgia into my heart with this superb poem of yours! How can I not grade you with seven times seven!

I think quite often we Romanticize past decades, I often wonder if things were as great back then as we imagine.

Love this, Richard! I was a teenager during this time and you described it so well even though it's quite humorous! Should do well in the contest. Sandra

I wish that were true, my body would disagree. I'm Not complaining mind you, I'm in pretty good shape for an over 50 guy. Except today I am struggling with a cold and I had a super busy day at work. Thanks for commenting on my naughty story! Hugs Rick.

I'm definately laughing here dear poet ! When I was sixteen, I had a 1971 Cadillac Sedan De Ville. It was relatively new..and the front seats would recline so far back, that, it was like a bed...needless to say, mine first thrust....and my first ticket... ;) By the time I was thirty...it was comforters evened out in the back of my pick-up....my 6th ticket... :{....P.S....never had a moving violation, and I'm 56 ! Great write sir ! Have a blessed weekend......much love, james
