Ode to Spook

Spook; my beautiful big grey fluffy cat
Who every night would sit upon my knee.
For eighteen years I had you in my life
Until that day, when you I did not see.

Into my car I backed up my driveway
I felt a bump, and in an instant knew.
Under my wheels your spinning body lay
My dartling Spook I had run over you.

I picked you up and knew you were in strife
You bloodied head and body held no hope.
With empathy and love, ended your life
Around your neck I firmly held and choked.

I dropped onto my knees and held you tight
And for your loss I then began to scream.
My neighbour rushed into this awful sight
My sobs I couldn’t stop, my grief extreme.

I wrapped you up, and then I dug your grave
Lay you to rest, right in your favourite place.
My fluffy big grey cat I could not save
Within my heart your memory embrace,

It is heartbreaking that your Spook had to die, may be because of a slight negligence from your part. But who can prevent fate? Loved reading your highly emotive poem written in neat rhyming verse

Christine, this resonates forever with me... as I too accidentally caused a beloved kitten's death almost 50 years ago. And in the situation at the time, I had no choice but to choke the life out of the poor kitten, in order to prevent further suffering. . It haunts e to this day. I FEEL for you greatly. ~ Gershon

Hi Gershon Thank you for reading my entry and Yes it was one of the worst days of my life. Unfortunately my beloved Spook sometimes would lie under the wheels of a car, and I stopped my son from running over her a few weeks before I regret that I didn't check that day and as soon as i backed over her I knew and there was no way she would have survived so my head voice told me to choke her to end her pain and suffering I was such a mess afterwards but now she rests in my garden and i can see her monument every day I appreciate you review and I know exactly how you felt Many Cheers Christine
