Notes About The Poem

Poem written for and submitted to “An Ode to (favorite body part),” poetry contest, Andrea Dietrich, sponsor, November 7, 2025.

ODE TO MY DIGITS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Five slim sentinels perched on each hand
glide across keys like water over stones~
svelte reeds bending to my hasty rhythm.
Each joint bends like supple willow branches,
darting across plastic continents
birthing words faster than thought takes shape.
Yes, when I see the number of lines you script everyday, I feel that your digit ends move so fast. Slender and well shaped fingers are beautiful in itself. Such a wonderful ode. I love it.
