October Sighs
October, for the disappearance of summer, sighs
We feel it in clouds drifting across the skies,
The birds have gone south to winter abodes
Flowers fading, Mother Nature shifts modes,
Shivering chills linger throughout a cool day
Children no longer want to go outside to play,
A bright spot appears long about Halloween
As we begin to prepare for the holiday scene,
We are entering the serious shopping season
Hearing “Christmas is Christmas for a reason,”
In some ways, October is a month nondescript
A reminder to keep our light sweaters zipped,
For it is the precursor to cold months ahead
With all the issues of winter we sorely dread.
