"O Witless Quill"
O witless quill sharply dipped in smiles leering joust they your words on their egos competing galloping black stallions, see them fall shiny armour felled knights and petulant proud Queens now all shiny amour, in their saddles riding Merry rogers Merry rogers Darkness to Light schemes O witless quill sharp and sweet the pain, where your journey draws blood their lies, burning hearts banished, still and just, they lie prostrate beating on lambskin parchment wet with tears do flood a grim sickle in shadow reaps golden dreams dead to harvest where turned over in rich soil the veins of once 'twas Summer bleeds Winter wrists upturned beseeching Merry rogers Merry rogers Light to Darkness schemes All signs and messages receiving The mind's eye now cut and cursive, sacrificed blood inked on sacred Vellum, ne'er retreating (LadyLabyrinth/2019)
“...but the tigers come at night, with their voices soft as thunder...”
“Before him he saw two roads, both equally straight; but he did see two; and that terrified him--he who had never in his life known anything but one straight line. And, bitter anguish, these two roads were contradictory.” Victor Hugo

I love this poem of a witless quill. Good ink, splendid nib and plenty of wit ...

Ta Kai. Must go read your poems, haven't been in your neck of the woods for a while. Yeah, I can't stand witless quills, particularly those that need their nibs sharpened.

"Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo, is a different time period to the period I refer to in this poem. However, the song fits well with the fate of the woman. It could also apply to the male protagonist..."but the Tigers come at night..."; but more for her.
