Nut-Free

The signs are plain - No nuts allowed! Though I am sure in every crowd Some nuts are hiding in disguise, At times right there, before our eyes. Of course, that's not the kind they mean, For allergies have made the scene So peanut butter won't be found When any kids might be around. A childhood staple has been banned But what I do not understand Is why, back then, we could not see That peanuts were the enemy. It seems today, there's so much fear Of germs and gluten and it's clear That as more items miss the cuts The state of things, to me, is nuts!

Happily I'm not allergic to any foods, and peanut butter is one of them, a staple in our home when growing up. Today I prefer to eat fresh nuts, especially pecans, walnuts, pistachios, and others – a good substitute for bad fats. I also am a gluten freak, it digests better than wheat. Enjoyed this poem as I do all your work. M

I think we should just throw all of those kids in a mud puddle and let them have some fun and build up their immunity. God help me if I can't eat peanut butter. I'd be lost. :)

I'm pretty sure the whole allergy thing is ISIS! Great poem by the way!

I love peanut butter on my pancakes, in sandwiches, in between graham crackers, and in my candy. I cannot imagine, but better to be safe than sorry. Some people are so allergic, they break out at the smell of peanut butter. Cute poem, Ilene.

You have such a wonderful way with words Ilene - these days we seem to see more and more children with allergies to so many different things- I have no idea why this should be. Your final stanza really made me lol:-) hugs jan xx

Maybe if they would cut out fast food, preservatives and additives there would be more of a healthy world and less allergies.
