November Twenty-Second

Fifty-odd years ago JFK died. If you were living then, You must have cried. TV ran on and on – Pink hat and shots; Oswald and Ruby Connecting the dots. Bloodstains on Jackie, The LBJ pledge; All of America Sitting on edge. John John saluted, The widow in black. Innocence ended And never came back. Each twenty-second The month of November, Those moments flash back And I pause to remember. *This poem was written and posted on November 22, 2011. The original first line was "Forty-eight years ago..." I decided that I couldn't say it any better today.

I was in college that fateful day and glued to the TV. This is the first year I didn't hear anything about his tragic death? The pandemic eclipsed him. I guess. / M

glad you re-posted as many of us weren't able to read this touching gem first time around. it certainly was a turning point in our nation's history and an end of an innocent era. well done.

All of us who were young and hopeful cried, for JFK represented youth and hope... What we learn about him later seems so cruel: His tawdry affairs, his cover-up about the extent of his spinal problems, his collusion with Daley in no doubt stealing the election from Nixon... It's kind of like Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy got exposed. At any rate, he was still far, far better than the awful candidates --- Trump, Biden, Hilary, Barack, et al --- we've been disgraced with lately!! ~ Camelot

As George Washington predicted, political parties fail democracy as the Party chooses the candidate most likely to enrich it, and the people have little choice in the matter. Aloha! Rico

Americans today turn their violence on each other, leaving me surprised Orangehair is still walking about. Trump would probably put an hit on Biden, except that would make Kamala the next President and then woe unto Trumps! Aloha! Rico
